Hi There, I’m Maddy H-B!

I’m the mess-making, risk-taking, rollerskating artist behind The Solar Roller and I’m here to make all your dreams come true! Well, all your dreams might be a bit ambitious of me, but I at least hope to empower you to pursue a life of creativity, community, and quads, whatever that looks like for you!

As a hands-on learner, I have always been drawn to activities that connect me with myself, others, and the world around me! My fingers have always felt best dripping with paint, coated in dirt, and topped with glitter. This inclination toward the creative morphed into a full-blown way of life for me, with art becoming my coping mechanism for the trials and turmoils of life.

As I grew through my teenage years, I began to struggle with symptoms of my developing neurodevelopmental disorder. My creative practice allowed me the freedom to process my emotions/experiences, and I still rely on it as a main support for my mental health today.

But art isn’t my one and only true passion. Yes, you heard me. I have another passion: how scandalous!? In March of 2021, I decided to strap 8 wheels to my feet, and my life has been a wild ride since. Skating has overflowed my world with a sense of empowerment, freedom, and joy! It continues to support my mental and physical health more than anything else (don’t tell my art). It surrounds me with genuine relationships that extend well beyond the skatepark, and it gives me a safe place to show up as the imperfect human I am and try something new.

I now seek to share with others the beauty of living a messy, authentic, and passionate life through creating meaningful art, providing rollerskating resources, and building the skate community in person and online!
